The 74th Snipe Southwestern Championships were sailed in 15-25 mile winds at the Corinthian Sailing Club on White Rock Lake, Tex. These conditions produced close competition with boats planing side by side on the reaching legs. The 10-boat fleet was topped by Laura Stamets and crew Dan Dalgleish, two Texas A&M Galveston college sailors. In second, only two points behind, veteran skipper Gene Soltero and Catherine Holt. In 2011, the regatta will be held over Memorial Day weekend as it marks the 75th anniversary of the Snipe Southwestern Championship, which was first held in 1932.
Thank you to the Corinthian Fleet for providing an excellant race course and providing assistance when needed. Thanks to fleet captain Mark Williams and photographer Skip Rhodes who contributed to this report.
